An experiment April 21 2014

I get a haircut every three weeks or so. For a number of months I noticed that the salon had a number of empty booths. I asked the owner about it (she’s also my stylist) and she said that she was having a hard time filling the booths.

I asked her how she went about finding people to fill the booths, and came to find out that it’s mostly word of mouth. “That seems like a very inefficient solution,” I thought to myself, and decided I’d do some research to see if there was a better way.

As it turns out, there’s not. Aside from word of mouth, your second best option is craigslist. So your booth rental ads get mixed in with stuff for weight loss, photography, weight loss, manicures, weight loss, Avon sales reps, weight loss, and haircuts. And did I mention weight loss?

Or you could do like some people and make flyers and have your husband pass them out while he’s at work and then have a customer complain and then have your husband asked to stop handing them out while at work. True story.

Anyway, this is a long way of saying that I threw together a quick site to see if there’s any interest in a marketplace for salons wanting to rent their stations and stylists wanting to rent booths. I used keywords for the domain name, so hopefully if anyone is searching for salon booth rental they’ll be able to find it. And if not, I did a really lousy job of writing some copy that included the keywords that people might time into a search engine too.

I’ll let it sit there and gradually make it’s way into the Googles and we’ll see if anything comes of it.
